I was first approached by my younger son in 2006 when he was getting married, his one request for this big occasion was to have his father there with him on his special day. I knew that was impossible because his father had passed away in 1989.

As a mother I wanted more than anything to give him this one wish. So I set about trying to come up with something that was not going to cost a fortune and something that would last. I thought it would be quite easy putting a photo directly onto a wax candle but at the end of the day we would have nothing, no candle and no photo, so that was no good. So I looked at what if I could get a photo to be transparent, but to keep all the colours at the same time, this could then be placed onto a glass vase, a favourite scene placed on it and a tea light placed in it, so that when it is lit up, you can actually see the flickering flame through the glass and the photo, so this then brings that scene alive. And yes it worked. I never showed my son till the day of his marriage - he stood with his bride and they lit the candle together, and his father was there to be at his side to watch the ceremony. They placed the candle in the reception where everyone could see, even people who never met his father before did that night, and his old friends saw him once again and yes there were tears! My son told me it was the best gift I could have given him. So when he needs to talk to him or just be with him he just lights the tea light and he is with his dad once more. He has it forever!

So we thought that maybe this could help someone else who is finding it difficult with the loss of a loved one.
